Soft, dark, intense, and detailed, this piece is sure to reward you when you get up close to admire the subtle shifts in color in this wildfire at dusk scene. It's one of a few pieces I created in 2018 with the hopes of expanding the series in the future of wildfires at this time of day/night. I find the colors and contrast between the fading sunlight and intensifying fire a joy to paint but also to reflect on.

Light is part of our everyday, and is how most life on earth thrives. When sunlight leaves, we are left with the light of the moon and stars. But when the fire burns it becomes the focus of the night, destroying life. Yet wildfires create a fresh canvas for new seeds, plants, and animals to thrive. A different form of light that gives us life and warmth.

Oil on panel, 4 x 7 inches, 2018.
